Who are we anyway?

And what kind of a city do we want?

  • Do we want an attractive city, where people feel they are living in harmony with nature?  A city that is sustainable and robust concerning climate change? A city that provides a safe route for children to walk to school in the morning?

  • Or do we want a city that is all about concrete and faster routes to Publix?

And what about institutions and families that are considering moving here; how do we want them to see West Melbourne?

  • As a city where people know how to balance work and play, efficiency and aesthetics?

  • Or as a city that is indifferent  to families, hostile to nature?

And what do we want future generations to say about how well this generation took care of their city?

  • Do we want them to say we passed on a beautiful city noted for sustaining a high quality of life?

  • Or do we want them to say we created a wasteland, and called it progress?

They paved paradise, put up a parking lot,
They took all the trees, put 'em in a tree museum,
And they charged the people a dollar and a half
   -  just to see 'em,
You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.
